Bastet [Earth Warriors, Book I]
Kellan Largent, a grad student at Harvard, is waiting at the bus stop when a handsome stranger approaches and strikes up a conversation with Kellan. The stranger is Baz, a man that seems very interested in Kellan's research into the Earth Warrior cult. However, Baz is not the only one interested in Kellan's finds; there is one man who will do anything for the spell that created the Warriors, including kill Kellan for the secret temple location.
Bastet is the first book in the Earth Warriors series. The well-written, well-paced plot has suspense, action and a dash of cultural history, interwoven with steamy romance, as well as moments of humor. The characters are believable with great interaction between them. Baz is one of seven chosen to be an earth warrior by Egyptian deities who granted them immorality, along with the ability to shift forms. Their objective is to protect the Earth from destruction and keep the secrets of the Earth Warriors from mortals. Baz was sent to keep Kellan from finding out the truth about the cult, but also to keep Kellan alive. Kellan's research discoveries on ancient Egyptian religious cults have placed his life in jeopardy. While performing his duty as protector, Baz fell in love with Kellan. Baz is a romantic who treats Kellan with loving respect. Kellan's shyness often leads to him being ignored; however talking about his passion for knowledge turns Kellan into a chatterbox. Although Kellan's intellectual mind finds it hard to believe Baz can shift forms, Kellan feels safe with Baz. Their growing love for each other is articulated with sultry touches, as well as incredible intimate scenes.
The amazing T. A. Chase has created a superb beginning to this extremely enjoyable series. I look forward to Book II in the Earth Warriors, hopefully coming soon.

This is one of those books that is hard for me to review because while there were things I enjoyed about my reading experience, I was never excited or compelled to continue reading.
I want to start with the thing that bothered me the most about this one. Bastet is a reissue by a second publisher and there were still enough glaring editing mistakes that it often pulled me out of the story. What little connection I had was gone when I read sentences with missing or wrong words. I would have thought that a second edit would have caught these things.
I did enjoy the history and mythology aspects of this story. I have never been big on Egyptian Mythology so I was pleased with what I learned and I liked how the author incorporated myths and legends into the modern world.
I liked the concept of the brothers and they way they interacted. I almost want to keep reading this series just to see what’s up with Sekhmet. But I never really connected to any one character and honestly, I will probably forget about this series before the next one is published.
I also never connected with Bastet and Kellan’s romance because it was over the top instant and often didn’t make sense to me. I understood Bastet’s attachment because it was explained, but I never understood why Kellan gave in and believed so quickly. His sense of self preservation was non-existent and I just never felt that their love was anything more than forced for the purposes of this series.
I am giving this one 3 stars because I liked this one more than I didn’t, but overall I was not entertained as much as I would have liked and have to admit this story will not be memorable. Maybe if it had been expanded the author would have had more time to capture my interest. As it stands, I will not be carrying on with this series.

I loved this book and was so happy that I purchased the paperback! It has become one of my favorites. I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt and this book is the perfect blend of modern and ancient. What a ride it is!! I hope, hope, hope that there will be many, many, many more to collect and enjoy!!!
